I would say NO because a few things were changed. The script-writing keeps to the integrity of the original. Nothing has been changed about the characters themselves. I would say YES because it is true to the spirit of the play/book. Vincent Perez stars as Christian de Neuvillette. It stars Gerard Depardieu in the lead role of Cyrano de Bergerac. And deserves to be watched and rewatched dozens of times at least. A word also for the elegance of the film logo, with that very red heart pierced by a rapier sword, and also for the beauty of the soundtrack, which is truly a pleasure to hear.For Paris in July, I watched Cyrano de Bergerac in French with English subtitles.

Photography also helps a lot, with very appealing light and shadow games that make the movie visually beautiful.
